Personal Tutor

Tutoring Approach My approach is relaxed (but with a focus on exam technique) and I believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience, as should teaching. My extensive commercial experience enables me to communicate the subjects I tutor with many examples of application in practice, from manufacturing to marketing.

I aim to enable a student to achieve easy recall of the basic knowledge for the 'bread and butter' marks, removing pressure to enable them to concentrate on gaining the extra marks which require them to demonstrate their full understanding of the subject at their level. To achieve this, I believe that personal interaction between student and tutor is essential (confidence building cannot be done remotely); therefore I do not offer remote tutoring via web, though I will accept work for review by email as part of a normal tutoring arrangement.

Sessions are a mix of oral testing of key basic knowledge and working through past papers, with an emphasis on decomposing the question and squeezing the top marks out of the paper. My real-world experience in the application of Business Studies, Maths, Physics and ICT gives me a wealth of stories and illustrations which provide a framework for learning and memory. My background includes variously: IT Consultant, Software Developer, Head of Marketing, Quality Director, Commercial Manager in a variety of industrial and commercial sectors.
